Meet the Almys

The Family

Allow us to introduce ourselves!

We made this video to share our story, or feel free to read a bit more about us below!

Karis Elizabeth Almy was born on June 29, 2009.  Currently, her favorite foods are avacado and bananas.  She loves to be sung to, tickled, and bathed!  Karis also likes to look at the mirror while she’s lying on the ground, but who wouldn’t if they were as pretty as she is?  😉
KarisOn December 4, 2009 she was diagnosed with an extremely rare disease called Krabbe.  Karis is growing like a typical baby, but because of the disease, her muscles are unable to receive messages from her nerves.  Without regular medication, this is extremely painful.  Krabbe is a progressive disease and as Karis gets older (barring a cure or a miracle) more and more muscles will become affected.  Most babies who are diagnosed with Krabbe at the same age as Karis do not live past 13 months.  To learn more about this disease, please visit the Krabbe link on this website.

Since her diagnosis we have received an incredible amount of support and are often asked how Karis is doing and how best to pray for us.  This website is going to contain the latest updates on Karis’ condition as well as prayer requests, opportunities to get involved, and plenty of pictures and videos!  Please join us as we plead with our Heavenly Father to spare Karis’ life and watch Him glorify Himself as He reveals His plan for us.  Thank you for being part of our journey.

I graduated from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 2006 with a Bachelors of Arts in English and a concenration in creative writing.  I started taking classes at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi the fall of 2009 in pursuit of a Masters of Divinity.  I would like to earn a PhD once I (evenutally) graduate from RTS.  Two of my biggest passions are creative writing and college football… GO DAWGS!

I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2007 with a Bachelors of Science in public health.  I enrolled in the University of South Alabama Accelerated Nursing program in 2008 and graduated in 2009 with a Bachelors of Science in nursing.  I had planned on supporting Trevor through seminary with my nursing degree, but the Lord had other plans.  I am now Karis’ full-time nurse and couldn’t think of a more wonderful patient. My hobbies include anything to do with exercise or fitness, reading, and oil painting.

KalesKaris’ little sister, Kales Katherine Almy was born April 4, 2011. She is a precious, spunky addition to our family. By the grace of God, Kales is not affected with Krabbe. In fact, she is not even a carrier of the disease, meaning she can never have children affected by Krabbe. Kales loves dancing, cleaning, organizing, and ANYTHING to do with her big “This-ter” Karis. She also likes to go on runs with her Mommy. Her favorite book is, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear,” which she will often bring to Karis for story time.”

DSC_0532The Lord blessed us with Ander Christian Almy on February 8, 2014.  He is a wonderful addition to our family, full of smiles and always calm when he’s in the arms of his oldest sister, Karis.  Like Kales, Ander does not carry the genetic mutation for Krabbe disease, so he cannot pass the disease to his children.  Praise God!

Again, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Soli deo gloria,
Trevor and Katie Almy
