Meet the Almys
Allow us to introduce ourselves!
We made this video to share our story, or feel free to read a bit more about us below!
MEET KARIS
Karis Elizabeth Almy was born on June 29, 2009. Currently, her favorite foods are avacado and bananas. She loves to be sung to, tickled, and bathed! Karis also likes to look at the mirror while she’s lying on the ground, but who wouldn’t if they were as pretty as she is?

On December 4, 2009 she was diagnosed with an extremely rare disease called Krabbe. Karis is growing like a typical baby, but because of the disease, her muscles are unable to receive messages from her nerves. Without regular medication, this is extremely painful. Krabbe is a progressive disease and as Karis gets older (barring a cure or a miracle) more and more muscles will become affected. Most babies who are diagnosed with Krabbe at the same age as Karis do not live past 13 months. To learn more about this disease, please visit the Krabbe link on this website.
We currently go to therapy four times a week; twice for speech, once for occupational therapy, and once for physical therapy. We sure do wish insurance would pay for more because Karis is benefitting so much from exercising with her therapists. The goal is to keep her as independent and strong as we can for as long as we can, and to prevent muscle stiffness, which is a signature symptom of Krabbe. Karis also receives four different medications throughout the day to help manage her symptoms and pain. (It’s a good thing her momma is a nurse!)
Since her diagnosis we have received an incredible amount of support and are often asked how Karis is doing and how best to pray for us. This website is going to contain the latest updates on Karis’ condition as well as prayer requests, opportunities to get involved, and plenty of pictures and videos! Please join us as we plead with our Heavenly Father to spare Karis’ life and watch Him glorify Himself as He reveals His plan for us. Thank you for being part of our journey.
MEET TREVOR
MEET KATIE
Again, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Soli deo gloria,
Trevor and Katie Almy
